What Happens at Your First Made-to-Measure Suit Consultation?

What you will learn

Your first consultation sets the direction for a made-to-measure suit. This guide walks through the initial conversation, fabric selection, measurements and design choices, then explains what happens before the first fitting. You will see how the process differs from trying on a standard size and what to consider before your appointment.

The first meeting is where we begin to shape the style and character of your future suit. It gives you time to discuss the result you want and to see how the available choices relate to the way you dress.

We start with your needs. Will you wear the suit to work, a wedding, the theatre or a range of occasions? We also discuss your usual colours, lifestyle and the impression you want to make. The conversation helps us choose an appropriate direction before measuring or selecting a fabric.

Next we look at fabrics. We explain differences in texture, weight and feel, and discuss which options suit everyday wear, summer events or more formal occasions. The aim is to find a fabric that works for your plans and preferences, not simply the most expensive one.

Then we take your measurements. Alongside chest, waist and sleeve length, we consider posture, shoulder slope and other individual proportions. Those details help us adjust the suit to your body instead of relying only on a standard size.

After measuring, we choose the design details together: lapels, lining, buttons, pockets, stitching colour and, if you want one, a monogram. Each choice should work with the overall look and the occasion.

Finally, we discuss the production schedule and the first fitting. Most suits have one or two fittings, during which we adjust the final details.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the first consultation take, and how should I prepare?

A first consultation typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. You do not need special preparation; it helps to know when you expect to wear the suit most often. We will discuss your needs, show fabrics and cuts, and take measurements.

What is measured at the first consultation?

Alongside chest, waist and arm measurements, we look at posture, shoulder slope, hip position and smaller asymmetries to guide the individual fit.

How many fittings follow the first meeting?

There are usually one or two fittings. They are used to adjust the suit on your body before it is completed.

Can I choose details such as the lining or a monogram at the first meeting?

Yes. You can discuss lapels, pockets, button count, lining colour or pattern, stitching and an embroidered monogram.
